Using an oscilloscope for testing Electronic Fuel Injection sensor's and actuators used to be limited to the high end dealership type garages and specialist auto electrics engineers.

Nowadays these tools are much more affordable and are fast becoming the tool of choice when diagnosing faults on a modern fuel injection system.

Sure, code readers are great but the ECU will only flag faults on a particular circuit, rather than pinpoint the exact fault. Live data from the ECU is also helpful but seeing the signal represented in a graph form is usually the easiest way to spot signal abnormalities...

This video really only sets out to show you the benefits of these tools when compared to using a mere mulit-meter. I cover the differences between linear and digital signals and show you a couple of examples of taking readings, firstly the operation of a primary winding on an ignition coil followed by the signal you'd expect to see when testing an electronic fuel injector.

I also run through how to adjust both scales on the screen and how to set the trigger point to help stabilize the display.

I agree there's a ;ot more functions to these units to what's covered here but from watching this video it should give you the basics to starting to use an Oocilloscope when testing various electronic sensors and actuators on a modern car.

Before you start its always best to obtain a copy of the manufacturer's workshop manual or, at the very least, a wiring diagram to help with identifying the signal wire colour codes...
